Walking the area of Rennes-le-Chateau
WALKS
The area
around Rennes-le-Chateau is a magic area. Some people consider the area between Alet-les-Bains, Arques, Bugarach and Rennes-le-Chateau
a holy place. A place full of mysteries, hidden treasures, strange stories about UFO’s, intra terrestrials and sacred
geometry. With a virtual temple of Salomon laid out in the land and a Zodiac of 13 signs reflected in the landscape. Whatever
the truth, it is certainly true that walking in this area is a truly magic experience. It is as if the rocks, the trees, the
rivers and sources are talking to you.
We can offer several interesting walks:
- Like climbing the Pech Bugarach and the Pech Cardou, the male and female
mountain.
- Or walking parts of the sentier cathare. Or following the magic path from Bugarach to Rennes-les-Bains,
along the river Blanque, past the Source Madeleine, with a stop at the Fontaine des Amours.
- Interesting
is also the Sentier des Capitelles, which takes you across the Camp Grand, were many capitelles, little stone huts, can still
be found, from Couiza, via Coustaussa to Cassaignes.
- A special treat is walking from Rennes-le-Chateau
to Rennes les Bains and back by another route, like the priests Boudet and Sauniere used to do. Resting for a while at the
Fauteuil du Diable, the seat of the devil, and admiring the Trembling Rocks.
- And true magic is following the
River of Colours, le Ruissau des Couleurs, from Les Labadous to Esperaza, through the valley, that resembles the Milky Way.
- There are also wonderful trips to be made in the vicinity of Rennes-le-Chateau, short trips, like visiting
the cave of Mary Magdalene, the Aven cave or walking along the plateau south of the village.
- And for those
interested there is a famous natural labyrinth in village of Nebias, a twenty-minute drive from Rennes-le-Chateau.
